Renovation of Kerhis Clubroom 2.11.2026

Post author By Tenants Committee
Post date October 8, 2026

A message from the Residents’ Committee!

Our beloved common room, Kerhis (2.0), has served us faithfully for nearly a decade—ever since the old Kerhis (1.0) was demolished in 2018.

The current Kerhis premises have been in use for over half a century, dating back to the early 1970s. The space was last renovated about three decades ago, in the 1990s.

Now, in honor of TYS’s 60th anniversary, good old Kerhis is getting a long-awaited facelift, so… GET READY FOR KERHIS 3.0!!!

All of this requires a bit (okay, a huge amount) of practical coordination. TYS has currently scheduled the renovation to begin on November 2, 2026, and last throughout the entire month of November. This means the common room will be unavailable for use during November.

Preparations for the renovation will begin as early as October, so you might experience some inconveniences affecting comfort while using the room during that month.

All events in October will take place as planned unless otherwise announced. Unfortunately, however, we have had to cancel all events scheduled for November. Sorry about that, but hopefully, it will all be worth it, because…

It all culminates in the EPIC KERHIS REOPENING CEREMONY taking place in December! Further details regarding the reopening will be announced once TYS confirms the exact completion date of the renovation. But you can already start looking forward to it with mouth-watering anticipation! A party like this happens only a few times a century!

Best regards,
Student Village West Residents’ Committee

Your residents’ committee is here for you. Every week we organize relaxed and approachable entertainment and recreation for all residents of the Student Village area and their guests.

Come and explore our activities boldly and with a low threshold. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet other new students and your new neighbors across subject boundaries in a relaxed atmosphere. Countless students have made friends here over the years and decades and found their own group in our safe, stable, and traditional community.

Everyone is welcome here as they are, and there are many of us! Our happy group includes people from all universities and faculties in Turku. Some are university researchers, and some are just at the beginning of their studies. We are all united by living in the Student Village of Turku. Our community is so amazing that many alumni who have already graduated from here still visit our village frequently.

We warmly welcome you too!
Participation never costs anything and does not bind you to anything. Come once, or come repeatedly. Come and visit whenever you want, and leave whenever you want. Come for a short visit, or stay longer. Come alone, or bring a friend. You are welcome even if you moved here yesterday, or have lived here for years.

We currently organize relaxed hangout evenings every week on Tuesdays and Sundays, as well as the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. In addition, we hold 1-2 larger house party-type celebrations every month, which are announced separately on our official website. The events are organized at the legendary clubhouse Kerhisen in the Student Village, at Ylioppilaskylä 8D 4, 20540 Turku. The entrance to Kerhis is from the ground floor apartment yard of the red 3-storey building, through the green door, along Keltanokanpolku, opposite the Tyyssija Campus-sport gym

When the green door is open, you know it’s going on.
Welcome!

Tenants’ Committee’s Website Renewed

Post author By Tenants Committee
Post date July 3, 2015

Tenants’ Committee’s website has been renewed. We hope that the new websites are easier to use and update than the earlier one made with a html generator. On top of the new appearance we have a new calendar for tenants’ committee’s events. We have also added Swedish translation.

Because the website was only recently opened, here may be some functional failures. We ask you to report them in our Facebook group (that we wish all the tenants if Student Village West will join anyway) or via email to address tys.yklansi([at])gmail.com.
